WRAYSBURY'S JAZZ CLUB
In
October 2009 we celebrated 30th years of Wraysbury Jazz Club with 3 special
concerts. It is an achievement for a jazz club to
survive, so successfully, for this long and we were
determined to celebrate in style.
We
had the first of the three on 29th October with the
Chicago Teddy Bears Society Jazz Band. They are our most popular band and,
as expected, got into the spirit of the occasion straight away with lots of
requests, old favourites and new numbers. We had
wine with our fish & chips, the Hall was decorated
beautifully and we could not have got off to a better start.
On
the second evening we had a complete change with a small, intimate concert in
the Lake Room. We were entertained by the Rae Owens
Trio which consists of double bass, reeds &
guitar. Rae is not only an accomplished musician and singer but also a very
funny man. It was a delightful evening with great music and a lot to laugh at.
The
celebrations were rounded off with a concert by Neville Dickie and his group.
Neville is one of the most talented pianists in the county
and gave us a truly wonderful evening. He played
stride, boogie, honky tonk and blues and it was a real pleasure to
hear him.
Without
a doubt our 30th Anniversary celebrations were a great success - hears to the
next 30!
All
our events are for members only, but you can easily become a member, just ring
or email me.
The
one exception to our member's only rule is the open concert in August and this
year the band is Brian
White/Alan Gresty. All are welcome to this concert on 10th August, but
tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost of tickets includes a
fish & chip supper - the best value in town! This is an opportunity to try
the Club out with out committing yourself. See you in August.
